Recently, Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center Co., Ltd. sent a thank-you letter to Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, expressing gratitude to the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering's faculty and students for their active contributions to preparation work for the Second World Humanoid Robot Games. From August 22 to 26, 2026, the Second World Humanoid Robot Games were held at the National Speed Skating Oval "Ice Ribbon." Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center Co., Ltd. won first place in total medals with 15 gold, 12 silver, and 18 bronze; during the event, Tiangong series robots broke human records 34 times.
The School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering closely follows the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, seizes opportunities in AI and industrial upgrading, strengthens industry-education integration, actively advances new engineering construction, and continuously improves core competitiveness of its programs. This summer, the school actively connected with Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, selecting dozens of outstanding students to participate in robot testing, data collection and validation, on-site services, and other preparation work. Teachers and students fought side by side with corporate R&D personnel, stayed at their posts, worked overtime, and with solid professional competence and hard-working spirit, provided strong support for the Tiangong family's brilliant achievements.
The information value of this matter is not in the thank-you letter itself but in a specific link it reflects—preparation work for humanoid robot competitions requires large numbers of students to participate in robot testing, data collection, and validation. Earlier we discussed robot data collectors' work, where they demonstrate actions via wearable devices to collect data. We also discussed Beijing Humanoid Data and Training Base using professional teams and venues for data collection and model training. The student participation links mentioned in this thank-you letter—robot testing, data collection and validation, on-site services—correspond exactly to the most basic and manpower-intensive parts of the robot R&D chain. University students participating in this work gives enterprises a batch of cheap manpower with some professional foundation, and gives students exposure to real robot R&D processes. This school-enterprise cooperation model, alongside the earlier discussed Zhejiang University Science Park incubating NEXFORM and HIT Shenzhen incubating Ruoyu Technology, are different manifestations of the same trend—universities are becoming talent and manpower suppliers for the embodied intelligence industry.
